Gerold J. Flotte -  "The Colonel"
Gerold J. Flotte passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after battling cancer, on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the age of 58. He graduated from De La Salle, Class of '69, Louisiana Tech, class of '74, and Marine OCS in '76. He proudly served his country as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Marine Corps for 25 years, serving in many capacities including Desert Storm. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, residing in Slidell, LA where he earned a boat captain's license and guided swamp tours. Gerold was an avid hunter and fisherman, a member of the Suburban Gun & Rod Club, a lifetime member of the NRA and also Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed golf and bowling along with a number of other sports. He was preceeded in death by his father St. Marc and his mother Eleanor Schubert Flotte. He leaves behind, his loving wife Vickie, three children, and seven grandchildren: his son Michael and daughter-in-law Joann Thomas their children Alyssa, and Savanah; his daughter Heather and son-in-law Domingo Garcia their children D.J , Michael, and Victoria, and his daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Jeff McClung, and their children Maddox, and Chasen. He also leaves behind his brothers and their wives, Lucien and Mary Ellen Flotte; James and Claudia Flotte and their son Jimmy; Kenny and Dorria Amer Flotte and their children Chris, and Lily. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Schoen & Sons chapel on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until service time.
