George Louis Wax (December 6, 1928 - November 30, 2023); George Louis Wax was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 6, 1928, and departed this life on November 30, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Theresa Anna Schaff and John Edward Wax, and brother of the late Joan Wax Butz. George attended St. Aloysius High School. He was one of the original members of the Crusader wrestling team and was runner up for his weight class at the State Championship in 1945. George earned both a BA and a JD from Loyola University, among the top of his classes. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Kappa (SAK) Fraternity. In 1950, with George's leadership, SAK donated the concrete letters that spell "LOYOLA" on the front lawn of The University – creating a New Orleans landmark. The day he graduated Law School, he was sworn into the United States Navy and served state-side during the Korean War. Upon his discharge in 1954, he began his legal career which focused on Family Law and Estate Planning. He practiced law for 70 years - initially with Dart and Dart Law Firm and later in private practice. George was a benefactor and lifelong member of the New Orleans Athletic Club where he enjoyed playing handball and socializing with friends. He was a member of the Southern Yacht Club, the Suburban Gun and Rod Club, Kiwanis Club, American Legion Post 125, Deutsches Haus and several carnival organizations. He was married to his beloved wife, the late, Patricia Delaney Wax, for 57 years and is survived by son, Louis Jude Wax, two daughters, Joann Wax Collins (Sean), and Thérèse Wax Tournillon (Jonathan); six grandchildren, John Louis Collins, Colleen Patricia Collins, Erin Kathleen Collins, George Brady Tournillon, Madeleine Marie Tournillon and Edward Hunt Tournillon. George was a man of principle and loyalty. An adoring and devoted husband and father. To know him was to love him. He will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. at 11:30 p.m. on Friday December 15, 2023. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until service time.
